New skin cancer campaign targets young Australians
CANBERRA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) — A new campaign targeting 15 to 24- year-olds was launched at the Australian Cancer Council on Thursday to highlight the damaging effects of sun exposure.
It comes after regulation of solariums in Victoria last year saw a steep decline in tanning operators by more than 30 percent.
The new laws also ban children under 18 visiting a solarium.
However, research shows young people are less likely to apply sun protection when soaking up harmful rays, and often attempt to tan.
Surgeon David Speakman from the Peter MacCallum Cancer Center’s skin and melanoma service said prevention in the early years was crucial.
To spread through the body, a melanoma needs to measure only one millimeter thickness, he said.
“If you don’t get burnt, if you don’t go crazy getting tanned, you won’t get melanoma,” Speakman said

Lauren Munoz, a photographer from Boca Raton, found her perfect spot under a custom-designed arch at The Addison, a Mizner- designed restaurant in Boca Raton.
For all three, the wedding venue says as much about the bride’s style as her dress does. And finding the right venue can turn Cinderella into Bridezilla.
Munoz spent eight months searching for a wedding wonderland that would complement her $2,900 Marisa gown– which she discovered, after a two-county search, at Boca Bridal– as well as offer the classic, timeless elegance she wanted.
Munoz had done what some wedding experts regard as a wedding no- no: found the perfect dress without first securing a venue.
“Ultimately, the dress has to match the venue,” says Anna Erickson, catering manager of PGA National Resort.
After all, Cinderella’s fairy godmother never would have sprinkled pixie dust to create a Vera Wang–worthy gown for a wedding in the pumpkin patches.
Munoz’s big day did have a fairy-tale ending, thanks to serendipity.
She and her fiance, Mario, and her daughter, Ella, 2, happened to dine at The Addison on Mother’s Day 2008– six months before her December wedding date.

GERMANY’S famous Hummel figurines are to rise again to adorn granny cabinets around the world.
A new firm said it will take over production of the kitsch collectables from porcelain manufacturer Goebel.
New owner Hoechster said it had acquired the factory equipment and necessary rights to go on making the stylised child figurines. Goebel had announced it was axeing the line in June due to costs and diminishing demand.
Investor Joerg Koester said: “We want to give Hummel figurines the same significance they had in their best times for collectors and admirers.” The newly founded company will continue working at the Goebel factory with a reduced staff of 30 in the northern Bavarian town of Roedental.
Goebel had been making the MI Hummel figurines, based on the drawings of Bavarian nun Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel, since 1935.
The company, founded in 1871, makes tableware, earthenware and other porcelain figurines..

The Coal Trading Association (CTA) said it has elected new officer and two new board members for the coming year.
In a release, CTA said board members are elected for three-year terms.
The new officers include:
-President Sean Murphy is Director of Fuels for Mirant Energy Trading, where he oversees procurement of fuel for more than 10,000 MWs of electric generation. In addition to procurement activities, his oversight includes proprietary trading activities in coal and oil.
-Vice President Jennifer Johnson is SVP of Sales and Trading for Arch Coal Sales, a subsidiary of Arch Coal, Inc. She is responsible for the marketing and optimization of 140mm tons of PRB coal annually, as well as Arch’s coal trading activities.
-Treasurer Ryan Gentil is the Portfolio Risk Manager for Duke Energy. He manages the fuel risk associated with the coal assets for Duke Energy’s 3,000 MWs of unregulated coal-fired generation.
-Secretary David James is a Director, Sales and Marketing with Peabody Coalsales. He manages sales and marketing of Peabody Energy coal products in the Powder River Basin.
